Investing in Our Community
APS is committed to operational transparency and encourages open dialogue with our community so we can understand your needs and priorities in order to best invest in them. As one of the largest employers in Akron, being responsible stewards of our finances impacts the quality of our schools and the education we provide – it also has a huge impact on our community as a whole!
In Ohio, K-12 education is a shared responsibility with schools funded through a combination of state and local resources. This hybrid funding model helps to reduce the financial burden for Akron taxpayers by bridging funding gaps to ensure educational opportunities, programs and resources meet the diverse needs of our students. Akron Public Schools is also receiving $149.3 million in ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funds, which are being spent in three focused areas: scholars, schools and families.
We All Have an Important Role
Parents and guardians play an essential role in ensuring our students receive the quality education they deserve. Providing families and students with the resources they need to reduce absenteeism and make positive strides in their educational journey is a crucial part of this.

Renting Space in a CLC
Akron Public Schools (APS) and our community share in the use of our more than three dozen community learning centers (CLCs), by virtue of a cooperative agreement between the school district and the City of Akron. Each year, thousands of our friends and neighbors around Akron call upon us to assist them in reserving space for an activity or a meeting in one of our CLCs. Whether in an elementary, middle or high school, APS is pleased to offer our facilities to community groups and individuals for a facility use fee.
The Akron Public Schools Board of Education has developed specific guidelines that govern our facility rental program Building and CLC Rental Procedures.
If you have questions about CLC rentals, please contact Nina Biscan at nbiscan@apslearns.org or 330.761.2806.
